Bamboula's

Bamboula’s is always a great stop for live music in New Orleans – they have a great range of bands that are playing and usually multiple bands every night. Plus…it’s always free! The sound is great in the place (brick walls help that, we believe) and there’s usually a good crowd. It opened in October of 2013.

Food: Full kitchen with a great menu including a wide range of oysters.

Where’s the name come from?

A bamboula is a kind of drum made from a section of giant bamboo with skin stretched over the ends. Originating from West and Central Africa, it provides a deep, resonant bass. It’s also a dance accompanied by the drums. The instrument and its music are deeply rooted in the African diaspora. Enslaved Africans carried the traditions to the Caribbean and the United States, where it became famous in New Orleans' Congo Square during the 18th and 19th centuries.
