An underrated New Orleans gem is the Mahogany Jazz Hall on Chartres Street just off Canal Street. Great blues and jazz on display nearly every night. A regular at the Mahogany is Big Joe Kennedy, a sensational piano player. We love that he often gives background on what he’s playing – fun to learn a little bit now and then. He grew up listening to the blues in Milwaukee and Chicago but made the move to the Crescent in 2009. He was a critical part of the Dukes of Dixieland for many years and now does solo shows around town. Big Joe knows that music’s where it’s at.
