BJ’s Lounge is a classic New Orleans dive bar in the Bywater that serves up great music regularly. It has that amazing eclectic dive bar décor with holiday lights year-round, a collage wall, and a suspended race car over the pool table. Great stuff.
It’s known as an HQ for Little Freddie King who has played their regularly since the early 1990s.
There’s an outdoor seating area, a pool table, and poker machines. No food in general other than free red beans and rice on Mondays (bring your own food is allowed). It’s also cash only so be prepared for that.
More History:
The bar was known as George’s for many years and operated more as a speak-easy in the much rougher days of the Bywater. You had to ring a buzzer and they slid open a wooden peep hole to scope you out before allowing you in. It transitioned to BJ’s in the 1990s at some point.
