The Hot 8 Brass Band weas formed in 1996 when sousaphone player Bennie Pete merged two Fortier High School student groups. New Orleans brass bands bring the sound – it’s an experience that every visitor needs to check out. Hot 8 can have as many as 10 players – three trumpets, three trombones, tuba, bass drum, and snare drum. While five of the original members, including Bennie Pete, have passed away, the band continues to bring that big brass sound to New Orleans. As of the summer of 2026, they were regulars at the Howlin’ Wolf.
