Little Freddie King

1 min read

Little Freddie King, a cousin of Lightnin’ Hopkins (how cool is that?!) has been playing New Orleans since 1954 when he was 14 years old. His electric blues style is based on John Lee Hooker and Bo Diddley (from the same hometown, McComb, Miss.) – raw, down-home jamming.

Now 86 years old, he’s still rolling. He’s seen it all from barroom gun fights to bicycling through Katrina’s flood waters to a serious bicycling accident in 2025. And he keeps coming back. He has played nearly every edition of Jazzfest, including churning out a great set from a custom wheelchair in 2026.
