Saturn Bar

This is a legendary old-school dive bar that has graced New Orleans with its presence since 1959 when space travel was the talk of the country. The building, which had served as a grocery store, a pharmacy, and a watering hole, was purchased by the Broyard family in 1959. The eccentric O’Neil Broyard was the legend of the bar for many years. Katrina gutted the joint but it managed to limp along until COVID almost buried it for good. However, local couple Phil Yiannopoulos and Heather Lane purchased it in 2021 and it’s been brought back to full life.

Food: None (sometimes food trucks)

Nostalgia:

Man, back in the early 2000s, the Saturn Bar had the best juke box. There may have been a minor issue in that the screen was broken, so you couldn’t tell what CDs you were actually playing. You just put money in, smacked buttons, and hoped for the best. And you usually received just that – great music.
